COMPARISONS AND COMPARATIVES

   1.    Equal Comparisons adalah menyatakan bahwa hal yang dibandingkan adalah sama (tidak berbeda).
        Contoh kalimat Equal Comparisons :

a.       Dede sings as well as his girlfriend.

Dede sings not as well as his girlfriend.

b.      He drives as carefully as my father in the residential area.

He drives not as carefully as my father in the residential area.

c.       Parjo is as tall as me.

Parjo is not as tall as me.

   2.   Unequal Comparisons adalah perbandingan yang menyatakan perbedaan antara dua hal (benda) atau lebih. ditinjau dari bentuk perbandingannya, unequal comparison dapat dibedakan menjadi dua. Yang pertama untuk menyatakan bahwa benda tersebut mempunyai perbedaan dengan benda yang dibandingkan dan yang kedua untuk menyatakan bahwa benda tersebut mempunyai kelebihan, kekurangan dari benda lainnya.
     Contoh kalimat Unequal Comparisons :

a.       This sofa is more comfortable than the other one.

This sofa is bigger than the other one.

This sofa is not more expensively than the other one.

b.      Your idea is more interisting than mine.

Your idea is better than mine.

Your idea is not more badly than mine.

c.       He is more experienced than I am.

He is taller than I am.

He is not more perfectly than I am.

    3.   Double Comparatives adalah struktur kata yang di dalamnya terdapat dua bentuk superlative dari adjective (kata sifat), adverb (kata keterangan), yaitu suffix –er dan more. Double comparative berdasarkan pengertian ini sebaiknya tidak digunakan, karena dianggap tidak tepat.

    Contoh kalimat Double Comparatives :

a.       The harder you speak, the easier we understand.

b.      The more you study, the more cleverer you will become.

c.       The bigger the house is, the more expensive the price is.

    4.  Superlatives adalah nama yang diberikan untuk grammar yang digunakan untuk membandingkan tiga atau lebih orang, benda, atau hal.

      Contoh kalimat Superlatives :

a.       He is the most dilligent student in my class.

He is the fattest student in my class.

He is not the most stupid student in my class.

b.      This is the most best recipe to make a rainbow cake.

This is the simplest recipe to make a rainbow cake.

This in not the most difficult recipe to make a rainbow cake.

c.       Mount Everest is the most famous mountain in the world.

Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world.

Mount Everst is not the most colorful mountain in the world.
